Silicon Valley Quilts for Kids delivers 32 quilts to Next Door
Next Door is very grateful to everyone at Silicon Valley Quilts for Kids for making and delivering 32 beautiful quilts to our shelter. Bonnie Stearns, the founder of Silicon Valley Quilts for Kids describes what happened.
“When we arrived at the shelter, we met Tricia Nanez, the shelter manager, several mothers and their kids. With the help of little hands we piled the kitchen table with quilts and allowed the children to chose their favorite. We gave quilts for five babies and toddlers and three young boys today. All the older kids in the shelter today are boys and the sports themes and motorcycles were an instant hit. A little girl had a one-word request for her quilt: “Pink”. No problem filling that order! Some of our time was spent re-rolling and tying those ribbons again because the kids wanted their quilts to look like new presents after we left. They know they will have something new that is their very own to cuddle with when they watch TV tonight. They loved knowing that someone made a quilt just for them and they liked seeing that person’s name on the label. Look for the kids’ little fingers (and toes) in the photos. Twenty-four more quilts are awaiting future children who need a cuddle. That made it a wonderful 32-quilt day. Hard to say who enjoyed it more — the moms, their kids, the Next Door family 0r yours truly.
The children had such fun today receiving a gift made with love and care just for them and the moms enjoyed seeing their kids be happy with their quilts. They should sleep well tonight.”
