Shelters

Next Door provides emergency relief to support women and teens who are in crisis or who fear for their safety.  If you are being abused, call Next Door's hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 408-279-2962.

Emergency Shelter
The primary reason women seek shelter is to secure the safety of themselves and their children.  Often, the threat of injury or death is so great that no other alternative exists.  The goal of the Shelter Next Door is to create a safe place for women to stay by providing confidential shelter and supportive services that allow them to make informed decisions about their future

The Shelter Next Door began in 1971, when one woman opened her garage as a safe house for victims of violence.  In that garage began Next Door's 24-hour crisis hotline (the number is unchanged for 34 years) adn the agency's first shelter beds.  Today, the Shelter Next Door provides comprehensive emergency assistance including shelter, food, clothing, counsleing and case management.  The shelter operates at full capacity most days, providing safety for up to 19 women and children.

HomeSafe
HomeSafe Facility

HomeSafe is long-term transitional housing where families can stay for up to 36 months and receive comprehensive support services

Next Door currently operates two facilities, one located in the City of San Jose, and one in the City of Santa Clara.  The program is the only one of its kind anywhere in Santa Clara County.

The goal of HomeSafe is to meet the very real and desperate need for housing and supportive services for women and children.  While families live in a safe environment and work on rebuilding their lives, they can focus on addressing a variety of needs such as counseling, education, parenting and employment.

HomeSafe, a collaborative of three Santa Clara County nonprofit agencies experienced in domestic violence and housing issues, was formed in 1998 to address the need for long-term housing and support services for battered women and children.  The agencies include Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence as the lead fiscal agent and service provider; InnVision, which operates and manages the sites; and Charities Housing, the developer of the HomeSafe communities.
