Next Door Solutions proudly stands with the LGBTQ community in celebration of Pride Month.

Pride has always been about love and inclusion regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation. Sadly, as love knows no boundaries neither does domestic violence.

While many may assume that straight women are the only victims of domestic violence, the truth is that abuse can occur in LGBTQ relationships as well. In fact, research has shown that abuse is at least as likely in same-sex relationships as in heterosexual relationships.

There is a greater stigma around domestic abuse in these cases that may make victims reluctant to come forward and seek help. Additionally, The Center for American Progress states that LGBTQ victims don’t get the help they need “due to the lack of legal recognition of same-sex relationships, law enforcement’s failure to identify and properly handle domestic violence cases involving people of the same sex, and the shortage of resources available to victims of same-sex partner domestic abuse.”

Next Door Solutions is committed to overcoming harmful stereotypes and encouraging victims of abuse to get the resources and safety they need, regardless of their gender and sexual orientation.

Members of our LGBTQ community who have suffered from domestic violence are valued and welcome at Next Door Solutions. We look forward to continuing our partnerships and collaboration to improve and increase programs and services for the LGBTQ community.
